Sam led Shatan through the gate andground tied him. She knew western horses usually do this but she had taught it to him anyway. She set up some low jumps and went back to the patiently waiting Shatan.
She put his reains back over his head and warmed him up by trotting and cantering figure eights. Once he was warmed up she simed him towards the first jump and they cleared it effortlessly. She reached down to pat his neck. He shyed slightly but corrected himself with the pressure from Sam's legs.
They repeated the jump and cleared it. She reached down to pat his neck again, this time he didn't shy but kept going. She placed her hand back on the reins and aimed him towards the higher jump. At the last minute Shatan swerved to the left and Sam had to cling to his mane to keep from flying off.
Sam slowed him to a walk and turned him back at it. She let him walk around it sniffing and taking in everyting about it. She then cantered him in two circles and approached the jump with Shatan's ears pricked. They cleared it and Sam smiled.
